One small step..

One giant leap for me!!

So 2 years ago I bought a sewing machine for me, for Christmas. You see-I knew there were changes coming up in the Stake (I was the 1st couns in the Stake YW at the time) and thought I may be released. This would give me some 'extra time.' I've always wanted to learn how to sew, nothing major just basic blankets, costumes for my kids, the much needed hemming job. I was so excited to start learning and looked into lessons at a few different places.

Then I got released, for 20 seconds, and called as the Stake YW President-bye bye 'extra time.' So the sewing machine went into a closet in the basement still in its box to wait for its time and season.

Fast forward to this week-I know there are changes coming up in the Stake, and honestly that doesn't matter to me anymore. I've realized I May Never Have 'extra time' so late last night I did the unthinkable. I opened the box, read the manual and sewed 5 bean bags! I realize this is Nothing for most people but I think my foot has touched a sewing pedal once, in 6th grade economics. I've never threaded a sewing machine, used a sewing machine, or even looked at patterns or stitches or thread counts. So I was pretty proud of myself when in the first 3 hours out of the box I had threaded the bobbin, threaded the machine, successfully sewn one bean bag and hence broken a needle off on a piece of wheat (they're really wheat bags) and then replaced the needle.

Again, small steps but I already have plans for some killer super hero capes for my kids!

Good job, I'm so proud of you. I have dreams of wanting to sew. Maybe someday I will.

Way to go Jamie! Mark and I both have sisters who are AMAZING seamstresses...sadly I didn't get the same genes. I can sew, and I used to pretend I enjoyed it, but I've been much happier since I've admitted that I don't HAVE to sew all the time to be a good wife/mother. I'll save my creativity for the kitchen! :)

You ROCK! I'm thinking of finally buying a sewing machine to bring out the 8th grader in me too. Maybe we can learn together. :)

Sewing really is fun once you get going. It's nice to be able to make things for way cheaper than you would get them in the store! Nice work getting started.
