Church vs. State

Every Thursday morning after I drop Trace off at preschool I go to Kayden's class and do the book exchange, it's a take home reading program for them to learn to read. It only takes about 20 minutes and I LOVE to read, and want my kids to learn to love to read, so I thought this would be a good thing to be involved in.

Yesterday his teacher walked over to me (she is SUPER sweet but I still get a little nervous when she goes out of her way to talk to me). She says:

So every year I have different kinds of kids, the quiet kid, the loud kid, the class clown etc but I've never had a most religious kid. But this year, Kayden is the most religious kid. If someone does something wrong he says 'You're choosing to follow Satan right now.' If someone does something right he says 'You're making Jesus happy right now.'

I laughed cause we had talked about how our choices make people feel and things like that at Family Home Evening. But she went on:

Rebekah has an older sister that is mean to her and her and Kayden sit by each other and one day she was complaining to him about her sister. Kayden got really serious and said "Rebekah, does your family have family home evening?' She said no and he said 'Family home evening can really help your family and help you learn how to get along with your sister. It's on Monday nights and you should tell your parents to do it. It will help the Spirit be in your home an dhelp your family be strong.'

He came home from school that day and told me about it and I just told him he was a good missionary. Turns out he marched right back to class the next day and announced that he was a good missionary to everyone.

She kept going: Whenever someone does something to him he says 'Treat others the way you want to be treated, so if you want me to hit/kick/whatever you, then do it to me.'

Today I went to help with the Christmas party and there were 2 boys making gingerbread houses and this was the conversation. Boy #1 I'm pretty much an artist when I do things like this. Boy #2 I'm pretty much a scientist who is making a bomb to blow up your art when I do things like this. Kayden's teacher and I were standing there and she looked at me and said 'If Kayden was here he would say I'm gonna bless this and have family home evening.' Then she just giggled.

I think it's cute, and I'm so proud that he is comfortable talking about Jesus and religion wherever he is. I really hope he stays that way, forever.

okay, Keith and I are wiping tears from our eyes as we have just totally lost it over Kayden's zealous religiosity! Ha!
